The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has appealed to all the Naga underground groups to immediately cease all forms of violence against one another, exercise restraint and responsibility in handling differences, engage in sincere dialogue and peaceful negotiation to resolve disputes and uphold the spirit of unity and brotherhood, especially among closely connected communities like the Zeliangrong.
The press release stated “we express deep concern and profound sorrow over the repeated incidents of fratricidal clashes among Naga underground outfits in Manipur State within the Zeliangrong area. These acts of violence among our own people are tragic, unacceptable, and a serious setback to the unity, dignity, and future of the Naga community.
“We are especially pained by the impact of such conflicts on the Zeliangrong community, a people bound together by shared history, culture, and identity-comprising the Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei and Inpui tribes. The Zeliangrong people have long stood for resilience, unity, and preservation of indigenous heritage, while also contributing significantly to the broader Naga movement for identity and self-determination.
“Historically, the Zeliangrong community has endured hardship and demonstrated remarkable courage, notably under the leadership of visionary figures like Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu, who revolt against the British rule, stood for justice, cultural renaissance, and the dignity of their people. In this light, the current fratricidal violence is not only heartbreaking but also stands in stark contrast to the values of unity and collective strength upheld by our forebears.
“At a time when solidarity and reconciliation are most needed, these internal conflicts weaken our shared aspirations and bring unnecessary suffering to innocent families and communities. The loss of lives in such circumstances is not only painful but also dishonors the sacrifices of our past leaders and the hopes of our future generations.*
Zeliangrong Union (AMN) has strongly appeal to all Naga underground groups to:
(1) Immediately cease all forms of violence against one another.
(2) Exercise restraint and responsibility in handling differences.
(3) Engage in sincere dialogue and peaceful negotiation to resolve disputes.
(4) Uphold the spirit of unity and brotherhood, especially among closely connected communities like the Zeliangrong.
“We further urge civil society organizations, church leaders, and community elders-particularly within Zeliangrong areas to actively intervene and facilitate peace-building initiatives. Their moral voice and influence are crucial in guiding all parties toward forgiveness, reconciliation, and lasting peace.
“Let us remember that our strength lies in unity. Fratricidal conflict only undermines our cause, erodes trust, and delays progress toward peace and development.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.”
“Issued in the interest of peace, unity, and the shared future of the Naga people, with heartfelt concern for the Zeliangrong community” stated the press release issued by Pantijai Newmei, General Secretary, Zeliangrong Union (AMN).
