Asufii Christian Institute Observes National Wild Life Day

The Asufii Christian Institute, Punanamei, Mao observed National Wildlife Day 2025 on 4th September 2025. The observation programme was hosted by the Department of Zoology under the theme “Connecting People and Planet: Exploring Digital Innovation in Wildlife Conservation”.

Shanngam S. (IFS), DFO of Senapati attended the occasion as chief guest. Speaking at the occasion, Shanngam Shaliwo elaborated on Manipur’s fragile ecosystems and conservation challenges faced locally and globally. He highlighted the rarity of finding Shirui Lily (Lilium macklinae) and the endangered Pangolin (Manis crassicaudata) of Manipur. He urged the students to become custodians of biodiversity.

Koso Chokhone, Range Forest Officer, Mao Range, Senapati Forest Division, Government of Manipur also graced the event as guest of honour.

The day was celebrated with many students competing for best wildlife reels, best wildlife photography and slogan for creating awareness among the common populace.

S. Chokhone of 5th Semester, Department of Zoology, Athikho Mosohrii of 5th Semester, Department of Economics and Ashiho Roziini of 5th Semester, Department of Chemistry were awarded the best award in reels, photography and slogan competition, respectively.

The Asufii Christian Institute is situated at a picturesque setting and a serene environment in the midst of nature in the northern front of Manipur state at Asufü, Punanamei village. The college is located about two kilometers away from the National Highway 2, which passes through Mao Gate town. The place is easily accessible from both the States of Manipur and Nagaland as it is located right at the border of the two states.
