Due to the heavy rain in the past weeks, standing paddy fields and fishery ponds at Phungcham have been completely washed away by the rain.

Winson Yangya informed that “I have lost two of my paddy fields at Nipu area to the rain. There is no way of salvaging even a little portion of it. The overflowing water from the stream have inundated and completely destroyed the paddy fields. The fields normally yields 200 tins and it is our main source of sustenance.”

The paddy field belonging to Lawthing Khaleng of Phungcham and Merryson Yangya of Paorei has been cultivated by Winson Yangya of Phungcham. The field is completely overrun by silts and stones and is unfit for farming.

It is also reported that the paddy fields and fishery ponds belonging to Zanngam Horam, PR. Mashanring, Shimshang Pheirei, Thotwon PR and others have been completely destroyed by the rain. All the fishes have been washed away.

The farmers are left with no means of alternatives for this year and have appealed the concern authority for all possible help.
