The 79th India’s Independence Day Celebration at Bakshi Ground, Hunpung, Ukhrul is set to become even grander in 2025 with 46 contingents all set to compete in the parade.
Preparation in full swing for the landmark day. Go to any school neighbourhood in Ukhrul Headquarters, one can hear the reverberating sounds of drums and the high pitch voice of the parade commander as the students practice for the 79th Independence Day celebration.
It is learnt that a total of Rs 2 Lakh has been earmarked for Ukhrul District for Independence Day celebration 2025.
A total of Rs. 96 Lakh has been earmarked as projected fund for Independence Day Celebration 2025 in Manipur, out of which all the 15 District DCs will get Rs. 2 Lakh each.
Rs. 3 Lakh is earmarked for the home reception at Raj Bhavan and Rs. 25 Lakh for arrangement of refreshment /accommodation on the day of rehearsals and on the function including refreshment for all invitees to the function. Rs. 2 Lakh for stationary items of different colours, procurement of papers/envelops, misc, etc and Rs. 36 lakh for construction of welcome gate at 9 different locations @ Rs. 4 Lakh per Gate.
One can understand the higher budget allocation for the State Capital. But the huge disparity of budget allocation between the State capital and the rest of the state is confounding.
Due to limited budgets, schools from border areas and far flung areas always faces problem participating at the independence day celebration at Ukhrul Headquarters. Inspite of the tight budget, the District Administration is doing its best to make it into a grand celebration. The renovation work at the venue is in full swing, arrangement of refreshment for the rehearsal on 13 August and the main event on 15 August is all set. Unlike the previous years, this year the participants would be parading on a black top surface.
