The United Naga Council (UNC) – the apex body of Naga civil organisation in Manipur on Wednesday had imposed a stricture to all Naga communities to refrain themselves from participating at the programme “International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples” organised by Indigenous People’s Forum, Manipur, slated on 9th August 2025 at City Convention, Palace Compound, Imphal.

An order issued by the President of UNC, NG. Lorho stated that “upon receiving information pertaining to hosting of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples by unmandated organisation in the name of Indigenous People’s Forum, Manipur, on 9th August 2025 at City Convention, Palace Compound, Imphal, the undersigned hereby impose a stricture to all members of the Naga community to refrain from participating the scheduled programme as the question of common indigeneity is being in question.”

It further added “the UNC has time and again reminded all the tribe Hohos to refrain from attending any meeting, convention, event, hosted/organised by unmandated organisation as it is tantamount to wilful confrontation to the aspiration of the Nagas. While extending our solidarity to the world indigenous communities/peoples, we urge all members of our community old and young to abstain from attending the said meeting and to prioritize the well-being and protection of our community’s rights and interests.”

“Any recalcitrant individual/tribe participating in the scheduled event/programme should not take the name of one’s tribe and speak on behalf of the Nagas” warned the stricture issued by UNC.

The stricture/order was copied to Wungnaoshang Kasar, President of Indigenous People’s Forum, Manipur (IPFM), President of Tribe Hoho and Sub-ordinate bodies of UNC.
