The XIᵗʰ edition of Tangkhul Naga Zingtun Longphang (TNZL) Sports, Literary, and Cultural Festival 2026, under the theme “Unity in Motion” began at Phalee Village, Ukhrul District, Manipur on Wednesday.
On behalf of the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Asish Das (IAS) hoisted the festival flag.
Khashim Vashum, Hon’ble MLA of 45-Chingai Assembly Constituency attended the occasion as guest of honour and R.S. Jollyson, Vice President of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) as the Chief Host.
MLA Khashim Vashum unveiled the monolith and lit the torch. He lauded the initiative of TNZL and host Phalee. Speaking at the occasion, MLA Khashim Vashum stated that, “it is an honour to stand here today on this 11ᵗʰ Tangkhul Naga Zingtun Longphang – Sports, Literary and Cultural Festival inaugural programme. I am truly delighted, as we gather here to celebrate athletic prowess, the excellence of our knowledge and to uphold the vibrant of our culture that binds us, and draws inspiration to work together for a stronger, and more harmonious society.
He highlights the key developmental initiatives undertaken by the Government of India and Government of Manipur in L.M Block – Chingai A/C, by various departments. Notably, the Sirarakhong Chilli Production Project and Kachai Lemon Production Project have earned the GI Tag recognition, with their products reaching wider markets – a matter of pride for Manipur.
MLA Khashim Vashum stated “the L.M Block office is now operational, with ongoing vicinity developments. I also wish to mention the crucial Mahadev – Talloi – Pfutzero Road Construction Project, a key connector between Ukhrul District Villages and Senapati District Villages, and State Highways. I urge the PWD Department to align with the Ministry’s, and expedite the remaining work in progress at the earliest, in the interest of the public. Lastly, I thank the organizers for bringing us together, and I wish all the participants the very best.’
The Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Asish Das extended heartfelt greetings on behalf of the Governor to the gathering. Impressed by the performance of the young students of Phalee, Deputy Commissioner has extended a special invitation for their presence and performance at the 77th Indian Republic Day 2026 celebration at Ukhrul Headquarters.
Convenor of the Sports Committee, Ngakuimi Awungshi, in his address extended a heartfelt welcome to each and every. “This year’s theme, “Unity in Motion,” holds special meaning for us. For the Western Tangkhul Naga community, unity has never been passive. It is lived, practiced and carried forward. It is reflected on our playing fields, on our stages, in our literature and in our shared cultural identity. Today, as we gather here, we affirm that unity is not only about standing together, but also about moving together, growing together and building together” stated Ngakuimi Awungshi.
Ngakuimi Awungshi added “the TNZL festival has always been more than a competition. It is a celebration of who we are: of our
sportsmanship, our intellectual spirit, our creativity, our culture and our youth. It provides a space for
villages to reconnect, for friendships to form and for talents to emerge.”
The inaugural ceremony also witnessed the presence of Ramreichan Keishing, President of TKS, Thingreiphy Lungharwoshi, President of TSL, Ringphapam Kasar, President In-charge of TMNL, community leaders and elders.
The festival will conclude on 22 January 2025. A total of 15 units are participating in the festival.
