The Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Asish Das (IAS) on Friday the 5 December 2025 inaugurated shingling of road at Phungcham village, Chingai Block, Ukhrul District, Manipur as a part of Unlocking Ukhrul Model.
Shingling work was carried out at the Old British Road at Phungcham, a stretch of road covering a distance of 2 kilometres.
Speaking at the programme, Asish Das stated, “It is a proud moment for me personally because my brainchild is taking birth and it is growing up. I am so happy that people are taking up “Unlocking Ukhrul Model” in many villages it is being taken up in a grand successful way and Phungcham is also leading the way. I am very excited, looking for more and more such programmes. This is personally an encouragement and support. Personally, a motivation for me. So that we can work wholeheartedly for the welfare of the community. Unlocking Ukhrul Model is all about giving ownership back to the community and believing in their capacity and power to make the transformation.”
The programme was attended by Tuireising Horam, Headman of Phungcham village, Pamlei Pheirei, Chairman of Phungcham VDC and elders and villagers.
“Unlocking Ukhrul Model’’ is a major development initiative programme, a brainchild of Asish Das, the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul. The project has its main focus on improving the infrastructure, particularly, renovating 300 kilometers of rural roads of Ukhrul District under the MGNREGA scheme.
