The Ukhrul Police on Tuesday issued a brief report of the incident that occurred on 2 March 2026 at Namthilok near Shangkai Village along Imphal‑Ukhrul road. The members of the public are further advised to refrain from spreading rumours, misinformation, or provocative content, as such acts may create misunderstanding and disturb communal harmony.
Babitarani Swain (IPS), SP of Ukhrul informed that “on 2 March 2026 at 7:30 p.m., the Officer‑in‑Charge (OC) of Litan Police Station received reliable information that on the same day at about 3:30 p.m., a vehicle (ECO van) carrying some occupants of Mongkot Chepu village belonging to the Kuki community, coming from the Mahadev side, and an Alto car with occupants belonging to Riha village (Tangkhul Naga community) coming from the Litan side towards the Mahadev side, were reportedly involved in a narrowly averted collision due to alleged wrong‑side driving by the driver of the Alto car near Shangkai village along the Imphal‑Ukhrul road, about 5 km south‑west of Litan Police Station.
“Following the incident, an exchange of heated words took place between the drivers of the two vehicles, which subsequently escalated into a scuffle. In the altercation, occupants of both vehicles sustained physical injuries on their persons.
“On the basis of the above information, a regular FIR, case No. 6(3)2026 LTN‑PS u/s 117/3(5) BNS, has been registered _suo‑motu_ for investigation.
“After registration of the case, a police team and other security forces rushed to the spot. However, no parties were found present upon arrival at the spot.
“Following the incident, immediate preventive security measures have been undertaken, and foot patrolling in the area has been intensified to ensure the safety and security of commuters.
“The general public is hereby requested to immediately inform the District Police or the nearest Police Station in the event of any such incident, instead of circulating unverified information on social‑media platforms. Prompt reporting to the police will enable timely intervention and help prevent escalation of the situation.
“Members of the public are further advised to refrain from spreading rumours, misinformation, or provocative content, as such acts may create misunderstanding and disturb communal harmony.
“All concerned are urged to exercise restraint and maintain peace, as any irresponsible action or reaction may unnecessarily aggravate the situation. The District Police remain committed to ensuring law and order and appeal for the cooperation of all sections of society in maintaining peace and harmony in the district.”
