Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) have come out with a statement in regards to the incident that took place on 20 November 2025 at Govindajee Crossing, Imphal.
The statement issued by TNL stated that, “the ugly episode that currently rages the ground in Imphal following the incident involving Sanajaoba Leishemba, Hon’ble MP (Rajya Sabha) and Themthing Ngashangva (IPS) IGP, speaks volumes of how the state of Manipur is administered and governed!!
“The matter that otherwise, should have been treated as an ordinary administrative issue, has been hijacked to the top of public interests. Having arrogated to himself the authority of pronouncing judgment against the concerned IGP, the Hon’ble MP has asked the Hon’ble Governor, Manipur to place Themthing Ngashangva, IGP, under suspension.
“As people’s representative, the minimum that is expected of the Hon’ble MP is to find out the veracity of the issue at stake from the IGP who was present right on the spot taking control of the tense situation at that very point of time. Far from it, he unilaterally drew his own conclusion, the kind of which can and would happen in a kangaroo court.
“We now demand that a high powered Enquiry Committee/Commission headed by a retired Judge of the Supreme Court/High Court from outside Manipur be immediately set up to unearth the issue in its entire perspectives. They may be given one month’s time for submission of their report. Enough is enough of Valley chauvinism ” added the statement.
The Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) has express deep concern over the incident where the protest rally of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) on 20th November 2025 at Imphal, spiralled out as a confrontation between the office of the Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Manipur and the efficiency of the Police Department.
The statement reads, “the TSL empathises with the genuine needs and demands of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and appeals to the responsible authorities to look into the matter.
“Tangkhul Shanao Long, as one of the oldest women organizations stands as testament that Hon’ble Member of Parliament Manipur, Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba as an advocate for peace and Themthing Ngashangva, IGP revered as a senior Police Officer for his prudence.
“Although incidences which transpire in a protest rally can run emotions high, however any differences in opinions and actions in such a situation should be resolved amicably and not surpass the larger call to carrying out once duty and responsibility towards the people and the state.
“Tangkhul Shanao Long therefore, appeals to the good office of the Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Manipur and the Department of Police to resolve the differences harmoniously at the earliest possible time in the greater interest and benefit of the people.”
TSL also urges the public to refrain from posting inflammatory statements in social media for maintaining peace and mutual respect. Let the pride and beauty of Manipur not mar by violence.
