“At around 2:50 PM to 3:00 PM, the Kuki militants along with armed Kuki volunteers opened unprovoked firing towards innocent cultivators working in their agricultural fields” stated the Sinakeithei Village Authority in their memorandum submitted to Ram Muivah, Hon’ble MLA of 44 Assembly Constituency, Manipur.
The repeated unprovoked firing by Kuki armed groups had compelled the Sinakeithei Village Authority to urge for deployment of additional state security forces at Sinakeithei Village at the earliest.
The memorandum reads, “we, the undersigned on behalf of the people of Sinakeithei Village, Ukhrul District, most respectfully submit this memorandum to bring to your urgent attention in yet another shocking and deeply disturbing incident that has taken place within the jurisdiction of our village on the fateful day 7th March, 2026.
“On the afternoon of today, at around 2:50 PM to 3:00 PM, Kuki militants along with armed Kuki volunteers opened unprovoked firing towards innocent cultivators working in their agricultural fields. The sudden and indiscriminate firing created panic and terror among the villagers who were peacefully engaged in their daily livelihood activities.
“It may be recalled that such incidents of unprovoked firing, intimidation, and armed movement have been occurring repeatedly in recent times, particularly along the western flank of Sinakeithei Village. These recurring acts have severely disrupted the otherwise peaceful environment of the area and have rendered the law-abiding citizens of Sinakeithei Village into a constant state of fear and insecurity.
“It is also pertinent to state that previous incidents involving intimidation of farmers, firing, and aggressive movement by armed Kuki militants and volunteers have already been reported within the same locality. especially around the Lungter Hill Range, which falls well within the jurisdiction and traditional land of Sinakeithei Village. The continued recurrence of such provocations strongly suggests a deliberate attempt to create instability and insecurity in the area.
“Despite repeated concerns raised earlier, these alarming incidents continue to occur within the jurisdiction of Sinakeithei Village, thereby posing a serious threat to the safety, livelihood, and peaceful existence of the villagers.
“In view of the gravity of the situation, we earnestly urge your good office to kindly take up the matter with the State Government and the concerned law-enforcement authorities so that immediate and decisive action may be taken to prevent further escalation.
We therefore humbly request the following urgent measures:
1. Immediate investigation and strict legal action against those responsible for the unprovoked firing and intimidation of villagers.
2. Deployment of additional state security forces to effectively man and secure the western flank route of Sinakeithei Village, particularly the Lungter Hill Range.
3. Regular security patrolling and surveillance in the vulnerable areas to ensure the safety of cultivators and residents.
4. Necessary measures to prevent further armed provocations and safeguard civilian life and property in the area.
“The people of Sinakeithei Village have always upheld peaceful co-existence in the neighborhood. However, the repeated occurrence of such armed incidents has now reached an alarming level, making immediate intervention by the State authorities absolutely necessary.
“We therefore sincerely hope that your esteemed office will treat this matter with utmost seriousness and initiate urgent steps to ensure the protection and security of the innocent villagers” stated the memorandum signed by Vashai Canaan Phungshim Zimik, Headman, Sinakeithei Village and Rungsung Ulysis, Chairman, Sinakeithei Village.
