Martyrs’ Day was solemnly observed by the District Administration of Kamjong in remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi and all martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation.
The observance was held at the Kamjong District Camp Office, 2nd MR Complex, Imphal, where floral tributes were paid as a mark of respect to the Father of the Nation and other fallen heroes.
The Deputy Commissioner, Kamjong, Luckyson Ngamsha Kashung (IAS) led the tribute ceremony in the presence of Superintendent of Police, Kamjong, Rocky Thalu, district-level officers and staff of various departments.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner stated that Martyrs’ Day is dedicated to honouring the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty, unity and freedom of the country. Referring to Gandhian principles, he emphasised that the values of truth, non-violence and moral courage remain enduring guides for public life and responsible citizenship, and called upon all present to uphold these ideals in their daily conduct.
It may be noted that the day marks the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who was assassinated on January 30, 1948. The observance serves not only as a tribute to the Father of the Nation, but also as an occasion to reflect upon his enduring message of non-violence (Ahimsa) and truth (Satyagraha).
