Hav. SW. Chinaoshang, (Retired) First Naga Regiment (No. 147039341) of Tashar Village, Ukhrul District, Manipur was killed on Saturday by Kuki militants near TM Kasom Village, Ukhrul District, Manipur. He left behind his wife, a daughter who is studying in Class VIII and a son who is studying in Class X.

The other deceased has been identified as Yaruingam Vashum s/o Thuimi Vashum of Kharasom Village, Ukhrul District, Manipur.

Akhai SW cousin brother of SW. Chinaoshang informed this correspondent that they were travelling in a I20 car from Imphal towards Ukhrul. The security forces gave escort from Mahadev to Litan. From Litan, they all travelled towards Ukhrul, a home bound journey.

SW. Akhai narrated that “after travelling about a few kilometres from Litan Police Station, a sudden spray of bullets hits the vehicles on the road. The gunshots and bullets came from the Yaolen Kuki village side – across the river. The bullets hit on the left side of the front window and pierced inside the head of SW. Chinaoshang who was seated in the front.

The spray of bullets hit their vehicles and other vehicles who were travelling in large numbers.

“We fled and stopped at TM Kasom. SW Chinaoshang was hit in the head. Since we could not go back to Imphal, we moved towards Ukhrul. An ambulance picked up between Ramva-Finch Corner. He breathed his last at Changraphung.”

SW. Chinaoshang had travelled to Imphal yesterday for his father’s check up. They were all coming back to Ukhrul after the check up.

Hundreds have gathered at Ukhrul District Hospital where his body is being kept.

The public are also waiting for the arrival of the dead body of Yaruingam Vashum s/o Thuimi Vashum of Kharasom Village, Ukhrul District, Manipur who was also killed by the Kuki militants.
