The Kuki CSO Working Committee Ukhrul has given 72 hours ultimatum to Tangkhul CSOs to allow passage of goods for Kuki areas or face a complete shutdown of National Highway-202.
The ultimatum issued by the Kuki CSO Working Committee Ukhrul stated “before and even after the onset of unrest on 08 February/2026, National Highway-202 has remained a free passage. Commuters, particularly from the Tangkhul community, have not been using the highway for reasons best known to them.
“Following the brutal killing of Thenkhogin Baite and Thangboimang Lunkim, a shutdown was imposed on the highway. However, the same was officially lifted on 20 March 2026 after an agreement was reached with the government.
‘Contrary to this, for nearly two months, traders transporting essential goods to Kuki-inhabited areas in Ukhrul have been stopped at Wunghon under Litan Police Station by Tangkhul women and subjected to selective restrictions. Goods destined for Tangkhul areas are being allowed passage, while those meant for Kuki areas are denied, amounting to a silent yet deliberate economic blockade.
“This discriminatory practice continues unabated despite repeated complaints to the concerned security forces, including Litan Police Station, which have fallen on deaf ears. The inaction of the authorities has only emboldened such unjust practices.
“Notably, on 02 April 2026, villagers from Sinakeithei were escorted under heavy security to enable shopping, while armed Tangkhul Militants groups reportedly continued to open fire on Kuki commuters traveling to and from Saikul. In the most recent incident, hundreds of vehicles have been left stranded at Tingpibung and Leplen since 06 April 2026-highlighting a stark double standard that cannot be overlooked.
“Enough is enough. When justice is denied and silence prevails, restraint must give way to resolve.
“In light of the above, WCKCSOs hereby issue a 72-hour (08 April 2026-10 April 2026) ultimatum to the concerned Tangkhul Civil Society Organization(s) to immediately and unconditionally lift all forms of restriction on the movement of goods along NH-202″ stated the ultimatum of Kuki CSO Working Committee Ukhrul.
“Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. You cannot cry wolf in public while choking lifelines in the shadows-the truth will out.
“Let it be clear: if this silent blockade is not lifted immediately, restraint will give way to action. Deny goods today, and the highway will stand still tomorrow.
“The choice is stark-restore free movement of goods for Kukis or face a complete shutdown of National Highway-202. The onus for any escalation will lie squarely on those who ignore this ultimatum” added the statement issued by the Department of Information and Media WCKCSOs-Ukhrul.
