FNCC has strongly objected to the proposed shifting of “Thingsat Camp” of the Kuki militant to be shifted to Kharam Vaiphei village (under Kangchup PS, Kangpokpi) and will be renamed as “Lhangkichoi” camp right in the heart of Nagas ancestral land.
“The FNCC would like to declare, in no uncertain terms, that if the so-called Thingsat Camp is established in the Kharam Vaiphei (Naga ancestral territory), there will inevitably be bloodshed between the Kuki and Naga communities” stated the press release issued by Media Cell, FNCC.
The press release stated, “the Foothill Naga Coordination Committee (FNCC) is deeply shocked and terribly frustrated to learn about the disturbing news being widely circulated regarding the so-called “Thingsat Camp” of the unlawful Kuki militant group. Reports suggest that this camp is proposed to be shifted to Kharam Vaiphei village (under Kangchup PS, Kangpokpi) and will be renamed as “Lhangkichoi” camp right in the heart of our ancestral land.
“This development is not only an insult to FNCC but a total undermining of the rights of the Naga people in general. The Government of Manipur had pledged to respect the sentiments of the Naga communities in the foothills while reviewing the SoO agreement. Barely a month has passed since this assurance was made and we agreed, in good faith, to withdraw our agitation. Yet today, we are confronted with alarming reports that Kuki militant groups are to be provided a safe haven in our ancestral land.
“The FNCC would like to declare, in no uncertain terms, that if the so-called Thingsat Camp is established in the Kharam Vaiphei (Naga ancestral territory), there will inevitably be bloodshed between the Kuki and Naga communities. For any such unfortunate outcome, the Government of Manipur shall bear full responsibility.
“We make it absolutely clear that, in such a scenario, the road passing through our Naga ancestral land, presently used by the Kuki community as their lifeline between Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, will be completely sealed. Furthermore, every illegal Kuki village established within our jurisdiction without the consent of indigenous Naga landowners will be evicted without hesitation. Under no circumstances will this road remain open to the Kuki community if the government dares to disregard our rights and concerns. We will no longer tolerate the deception of Kuki refugees and their militants misusing our ancestral land for drug trafficking and all forms of illegal smuggling. Through such illicit trade, unimaginable wealth has been amassed and turned against the indigenous Naga people in the foothill areas.”
