In the ongoing poppy destruction drive in Ukhrul District, a combined force belonging to Ukhrul District Police, 8 Bihar Regiment, NCB, Bcoy BSF 57 Battalion, D copy BSF 79 Battalion and Forest Department has destroyed 308 acres of illegal poppy cultivation in the last two days.
According to information received from the police, on 3 February, 2026 “a combined team of 112 personnel from Ukhrul district police, 8 bihar regiment, NCB, B coy BSF 57 bn, D coy BSF 79 bn and Forest department Ukhrul led by SDPO, Jessami destroyed 38 acres of illegal poppy plant at Thawai kuki/Mapithel Hill Range and 10 huts were burnt down. Necessary FIR will be registered accordingly.”
Further, on 4 February, 2026, poppy destruction drives were carried out in two locations.
The first one consisted of a combined team of 115 personnels belonging to Ukhrul District Police, 8 bihar regiment, NCB, B coy BSF 57 bn, D coy BSF 79 bn and Forest department Ukhrul led by SDPO Jessami. The team destroyed 180 acres of illegal poppy plant at Leingangching/Mapithel Hill Range and 22 huts were burnt down.
The other team was led by SSPO Ukhrul, comprising of Ukhrul District Police, 6MR, Forest Department and 18 AR conducted. The team destroyed 90 acres of illegal poppy plant and burnt 7 huts in the Khamasom Range.
With no cultivator found on site, no arrest has been made till date. Both the teams seized some poppy pods for further reference and the necessary FIR case will be registered accordingly.
The team will continue the drive till saturday, i.e., 07.02.2026.
