The combined team of Manipur Police, BSF, CRPF and Indian Army on Saturday carried out “Combing Operation” at Mongkot Chepu and Sikibung area to apprehend the culprits involved in the killing of one BSF jawan. 21 bunkers were destroyed during the operation. The operation will continue to apprehend the miscreants responsible for the incident and deter any unlawful activities.
The statement released by Ukhrul Police stated that “On 10 April 26 at 4.50 pm reports were received regarding an exchange of fire between suspected armed groups in Sikibung and Mongkot-Chepu village. During the incident, one BSF personnel, A-Coy, 179 Bn deployed at Mongkot Chepu village for security duty sustained bullet injury. On receipt of the information two teams of Litan PS rushed to the spot. The injured BSF personnel had already been evacuated to RIMS. It was later informed that, the injured BSF personnel, No. 170801463 CT/GD, Mithun Mandal 170 BSF succumbed to the injury. Subsequently an FIR has been registered in this regard in Litan PS U/S . 103/3(5)BNS & 25 (1-C) Arms Act and investigation is underway.
“Further in response, a coordinated combing operation was conducted by joint teams comprising the Manipur Police, BSF, CRPF, and Indian Army on 11/04/26 from 5 am to 10 am in Mongkot Chepu and Sikibung area to apprehend the culprits. During the operation 21 bunkers were destroyed and 11 empty cases were recovered. Area domination, search and sanitisation of the surrounding location was carried out to apprehend miscreants responsible for the incident and deter any unlawful activities. Such operations will continue to deter unlawful activity and apprehend the miscreants.”
Ukhrul Police has requested the public to remain calm and extend full cooperation to the security forces during the ongoing operation.
