The Chatric Village Authority has expressed absolute outrage and vehement condemnation towards the deliberate destruction of the primary bailey bridge over Nambalok River, Kamjong Chatric PMGSY road and torching of 1 Vehicle (Bolero) belonging to BSNL on 21st July, 2026 at around 11 pm by suspected Kuki militants.
The condemnation note issued by the Headman of Chatric Village A.S. Ningreishang stated that “the bailey bridge over Nambalok River is the only lifeline of Chatric Village and 12 other villages of Indo-Myanmar border area under Sahamphung Block connecting with Kamjong District Headquarters and other villages. This senseless act of violence against the basic infrastructure is not merely a property damage but also a direct attack on public safety, livelihood and fundamental rights of our entire community. The lone bailey bridge over Nambalok River serves as a vital artery for the region, connecting communities, facilitating economic trade, and ensuring essential emergencies including medical services. This destruction creates immediate logistical hardships, isolates vulnerable populations, and disrupts the daily lives of hundreds of innocent citizens who depend on this crossing living in Indo-Myanmar border area under Sahamphung Sub-Division. access to
“Targeting infrastructure essential to civilian life is entirely unacceptable and violates fundamental humanitarian principles. Such action only deepens instability and inflicts unnecessary suffering on the public.”
The Chatric Village Authority has urged the State Government for immediate and thorough investigation to hold those responsible fully accountable for this destructive act and punish accordingly under Section 3 of the prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act, 1984. We also urge the State Government to coordinate swift efforts to establish alternative transit routes (immediate restoration of Chatric to Ukhrul Via Sahamphung Block HQ) and begin the process of rebuilding this critical link.
