Unknown person entered Ava Market at Ukhrul and stole clothes, fruits and other items from various shops. Women Vendor Association has appeal the Concerned Authority for immediate arrest of the culprit(s) and demanded installation of CCTV, appointment of night watchman and wall fencing of the first floor of Ava Market.
The Zaoranao Sinshim Woman Vendors Association on Thursday lodged a complaint to the OC of Ukhrul Police Station stating that a burglary occured at Ava Market, Phungreitang, Ukhrul on the night of 15 October 2025.
According to the complaint, a goods worth ₹135570/- was stolen from the first floor and ground floor of the building. The ground floor deals in groceries and fruits and the first floor deals in second hand clothes.
The Association has also submitted a letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer Autonomous District Council-Ukhrul demanding:
1. Installation of CCTV at Ava Market.
2.Appointment of night watchman at Ava market.
3. Wall fencing of first floor of Ava Market.
This has been their long pending demands. However, it is yet to be materialised.
“We the undersigned humbly request your good office kindly considered the above mentioned demand of the earliest to prevent frequent robbery and theft at the Ava Market, Phungreitang, Ukhrul. Failure to fulfilled our demand within 10 days, we will be compel to take up democratic necessary action” stated the letter jointly signed by Soso Zimik and NK. Yaomila, Chairperson and Secretary of Zaoranao Sinshim Woman Vendors Association, Ukhrul.
This is not the first incident. Various report of burglary and theft has been reported in the past too. Failure on the part of the concerned authority has led to the loss of the property of the women vendors.
