Due to the pathetic conditions of the road, a sick person from Kachouphung village, Kamjong District, Manipur, was transported 10 kilometres on a makeshift stretcher by the villagers.

Kachouphung Village is located about 103 km away from Ukhrul Headquarters. It shares International Border Pillar No. 121 and 122 with Myanmar.

DS. Zimik of Kachouphung informed Rural Post that “the PMGSY road is in a poor conditions. The bridge over the Cheyako (Cheya) river is yet to be constructed and people from the area can only have limited access to essential services with great difficulties. Today, Leishingam Shaiza s/o David Shaiza of Kachouphung village has to be carried on a makeshift stretcher by the villagers for 10 kilometres and was picked up by a truck after crossing the Cheyako (Cheya) river. He is now admitted at Leishiphung Christian Hospital, Ukhrul.”

The PMGSY Road from Shirui to Kachouphung, is about 103 km. It is worth mentioning that, Alfred Kanngam Arthur the then MLA of 44-Ukhrul had raised the issue of faulty alignment of the road in the cabinet meeting held at Ukhrul Headquarter on June 4, 2019 and in the Assembly. During the Cabinet Meeting held at Ukhrul Headquarter, Chief Minsiter N. Biren Singh had assured for necessary rectification and had also directed the concerned authority to correct the alignment. However, even after such instruction no rectification has been taken up and the people still continue to suffer till date.

The callous attitude of the contractor and concerned authority has deprived the people in the border areas of their rights to live with dignity.
