Angami Youth Organization, Headquarters Kohima, Nagaland on Saturday issued a press release stating that the organisation is closely monitoring the development in Chakhroma and urged the Maova Village Council to comply with the ultimatum given by Chakhroma Youth Organization.

The press release stated that, “the Angami Youth Organization (AYO) is closely monitoring the developments in the Chakhroma area after the shocking assault of the Chakhroma leaders by Maova Kuki villagers who had intended to cause grievous harm to the leaders on February 13, 2026. It was only through God’s providence that the Chakhroma leaders could come out of the fracas alive.

“While we still remember how two innocent Angami brothers were robbed and brutally murdered in 1995 by the Kukis of Tapho village in Manipur, which compelled us to issue a Quit Notice to all the Kukis living in Angami jurisdiction. And when the Kuki leaders beseeched the leaders of the Chakhroma Public Organization (CPO) to protect them, it was the CPO leaders who requested the AYO to revoke the notice; and when the then Kuki leaders, on their own volition, made a Declaration on July 31, 1995 at Medziphema; we obliged the CPO leaders and the Quit Notice was kept in abeyance.

“The Kuki leaders, in 1995, declared that “we solemnly pledge to respect and uphold the decision of the land owners (Chakhroma Public Organization) and shall not go against the wishes of the Chakhroma Angamis, be it political or social, and in the event of any dispute or conflict within any aforesaid Kuki villages or in matter of land holding, the Angami Naga Customary Law shall prevail. Moreover, in due course of time, if situation demands, the land owners are at liberty to change the name of our village (s).”

“However, the hostile, aggressive and belligerent attitude of the Maova Kukis towards our Chakhroma Angami leaders on February 13 2026, has alarmed us beyond words and we would like to remind the Maova villagers that the Quit Notice of 1995 had merely been kept in abeyance, and can be restored/revived any time.”

“Therefore, the AYO urges the Maova Village Council to comply with Chakhroma Youth Organization’s Ultimatum dated February 16, 2026, so as to avoid any adverse consequences” stated the release issued by the Media Cell of Angami Youth Organization.
