The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), strongly condemns the barbaric, calculated and premeditated ambush on innocent Naga civilians belonging to the Liangmai Naga community between Makui Ashang and Makui Thanamba villages along the IT Road, Kangpokpi on 27th August 2026, by armed Kuki militants under Suspension of Operations (SoO), identified as belonging to KNF (P), KNF and KRA, allegedly under the command of Jangboi Kipgen, Home Secretary, KNF/UPF.
The press release of ANSAM stated “this heinous incident has resulted in the tragic and irreparable loss of four precious Naga lives, including a former Vice-President of the Liangmai Naga Council and present Assembly speaker of the Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur, and including two Naga civilian from Makui, while one brother was critically injured and another narrowly escaped the tragedy.”
The victims are:
1. Wisobou Charenamai Chairman, Chawangkining Village Authority and Former Vice President, Liangmai Naga Council (LNC),
2. Tadsongbou Ringkangmai Founder and Principal, Right Path School, T. Khullen, and presently Assembly Speaker of the Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi, Manipur.
3. Mariakdibou Wijunamai- Executive Member, Makui Youth Club,
4. Anil Wijunamai – Executive Member, Makui Youth Club,
5. Gaikamang Ringkangmai-critically injured,
6. Japou MK-Student Leader, Thonglang Akutpa, who miraculously escaped the tragedy.
“The Naga people must not overlook the gravity of this disturbing escalation. Such violence constitutes a grave threat to peace, communal security and the continued safety and existence of the Naga people in their ancestral lands. In solidarity of our fallen brothers and their families and the Liangmai community, ANSAM endorses and supports the one-day Genna announced by the United Naga Council. Accordingly, a one-day Genna shall be observed throughout all Naga areas and district headquarters from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM on 28th August, 2026.
“During the stipulated period, all vehicular movement, shops and business establishments, government offices, and private and government institutions shall remain closed. Emergency services and Board Examinations shall remain exempted.
“ANSAM sincerely appeals to all sections of the Naga public to extend full cooperation and observe the Genna. with unity, discipline, dignity and solemn respect for the departed souls” stated the statement issued by Information & Publicity, ANSAM.
