The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) had issued a press communiqué “over a series of crimes committed against humanity and the innocent Tangkhul Naga civilians by the Indian Security Forces – the Assam Rifles, the Kukis and the Kuki militants in the State of Manipur, India.” It further stated that the cases of gross human rights violations in recent times are “furnished hereunder for consideration by all the right thinking citizens living across the world:
(1) TARGETED BOMBINGS AGAINST THE CIVILIANS AND CIVIL RESIDENTIAL AREAS OF KAMJONG DISTRICT HEADQUARTERS, KAMJONG, MANIPUR, INDIA:
On the 17th of October 2026, the 11 Assam Rifles under the command of Col. Vivek Tripathi carried out the targeted bombings against the civilians and civil residential areas of Kamjong District Headquarters, Kamjong, Manipur, India, from 9.00-9.30PM duration with scant regard to the lives of the innocent civilians. The reckless inhuman act of a war-like situation orchestrated and executed by the Indian Security Forces has caused serious damages to the valuable household properties including live-stocks, and endangered the precious human lives, while inflicted a deep fear and panic among the denizens. comprising the aged, women, children and the ailing.
The grave incident happened on the day when the armed cadres of Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B), a Myanmar based terror group, and the Village Volunteers of Eastern Zone (VVEZ) launched an unprovoked attack against the Tangkhul Nagas injuring three (3) civilians. The site of the violent armed incidence took place between the territorial limits of the Police Station Gate of Kamjong and Chassad Public Ground. In this backdrop, the rationale of 11 Assam Rifles of carrying out the targeted bombings against the civilians and civil residential areas of Kamjong District Headquarters which are strategically situated at considerable distance, is highly bizarre, objectionable and unjustified, in any manner whatsoever.
In these given circumstances, the affected community fervently called upon the right thinking citizens, human rights fraternity, the guardians of the law, judicial institution, and the lawmakers across the globe, to address this grave issue and ensure delivery of a befitting justice to the affected people.
Why are the responsible governments of Manipur and the New Delhi assisting Chassad Kuki village in harbouring and supporting the armed militants pertaining to the Kuki National Army-Burma? The governments are solely answerable to the citizens of the country.
(2) ARSON OF TANGKHUL NAGA SETTLEMENTS NAMELY, SKIPE AND PILONG, SITUATED ALONG THE INDO-MYANMAR BORDER, KAMJONG SUB-DIVISION, KAMJONG, MANIPUR:
On the 18th of October 2026, the abandoned residential houses of Skipe and Pilong situated along the Indo-Myanmar Border under Kamjong Sub-Division, Kamjong District, Manipur, were set ablaze at around 5.00AM and 5.30AM respectively. These two Naga settlements were deserted after a series of violent external aggressions committed by the armed cadres of KNA-B and VVEZ against the Naga villagers in Z. Choro, Wanglee and Namlee on the 7th of May 2026; Pilong on the 24th of September and Ningchou on the 10th of October 2026, in which altogether six (6) civilians have lost their lives from these two incidences. Further, a similar offensive of grave nature against the Tangkhul Naga civilians was repeated in Huimin Thana and Kherongram, a hamlet of Nampisha village on the 1st of July 2026.
The Indian security agencies including the border guards, particularly the Assam Rifles, have completely failed to protect and ensure security to the citizens of India living along the vulnerable international border in Kamjong District, Manipur, India. In spite of the repeated appeals from the concerned Tangkhul Naga Civil Society Organisations for the vulnerable and affected border villagers, the Government of Manipur and the Union Government of India have not initiated any measures to resolve the prevailing vexed border issue.”
