Following the incident of 19 October 2026, the Nongmahn (Khongpal) Tangkhul Village Authority has appealed for deployment of adequate State Force Personnel in the village (Khongbal Tangkhul) at the earliest for maintaining peace in the area.

Narrating the incident, the press note issued by Hongmahn (Khongpal ) Tangkhul Village Authority stated that “on the 19th of October, 2026, around 9:50 AM, the uneasy peace that prevailed in the Khamenlok Area was once again shattered by the sound of automatic gunfire from the Kuki militants under the SoO agreement. Peaceful villagers who were earning an honest livelihood by tending to their fields and collecting firewood were fired upon indiscriminately.

“The Kuki militants were lying in ambush to carry out this cowardly act. This incident has claimed three precious lives –

1. Lairenlakpam Inaobi

2. Arubam Ronil and

3. Kshetrimayum Sushil

“This very incident has also caused physical injury to many others while grievously injuring four brave souls –

1. Somendro Maisnam

2. Suraj Ngangom and

3. Khomdram Basanta

4. Abomcha (Driver)

“This unfortunate incident should not end in condemnations and protests. Justice should be swift and truthful, and peace should be restored NOT just in the area, but in the state as a whole. Mere lip-service without actions will only embolden the Kuki militants to act with impunity and contempt towards the indigenous people.

“To help maintain a peaceful calm in the region, deployment of adequate State Force Personnel in the village (Khongbal Tangkhul) at the earliest is a necessity. This will not only act as a deterrent for the Kuki militants, but also empower our neighboring village settlements to carry out our agricultural activities in peace, with the harvest season fast approaching.

“In these trying times, we stand in steadfast solidarity with our Meitei brethren in their grief and suffering. We send our heartfelt condolences to those dear departed souls and salute their sacrifices.

“May their souls rest in eternal peace, and may those grievously injured have a speedy recovery” added the press release signed by Anung Zimik, Secretary Nongmahn (Khongpal) Tangkhul Village Authority.
