The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) is constrained to issue this communiqué in view of the unnecessary frisking of innocent villagers and random personnel movement undertaken at civilian areas in different parts of Ukhrul and Kamjong since the past few days by the Assam Rifles.
As of today the 6th of August 2026, the personnel of 11 Assam Rifles conducted frisking of civilian vehicles at Maku Village junction while causing lot of inconveniences to weary travellers along the Imphal-Ukhrul-Kamjong route. On Wednesday, the 40 ARs troops were also seen stationed at different locations including Changa Junction, Nungshong Junction and Finch Corner. It is worthwhile to recall that a troop of ARs carried out a daylong frisking of passing commuters at Ningchou Village under Kamjong Sub Division on the 3rd of August 2026.
In the wake of the heightening militarisation in civilian settlement areas, the public in Ukhrul and Kamjong have been totally agitated and inconvenienced as women and children continue to live in fear and insecurity. It is an utter irony that the military exercises being undertaken by the Assam Rifles are all in relatively peaceful vicinity. Whereas, the Tangkhul Nagas are pushed to the edge and living under immense distress due to aggressive overture of the Kuki militants and narco-terrorists since the 7th of February 2026. What is the intention of the security forces against the Nagas coping in the hard-earned peace after the signing of the Indo-Naga Ceasefire in 1997? Hence, the Indian paramilitary forces must withdraw from all such activities which are completely unwarranted, and refrain from repeating it in any future.
The Working Committee of TNL apprises the responsible authorities to look into the matters and take corrective measures in all earnest at the earliest time. We vehemently condemn the unnecessary action of the Assam Rifles. The solution to the prevailing violent conflict in the hills of Manipur will not be found in our neighbourhood. While the Indian security forces roam and bully around the innocent civilians in peaceful Naga areas, the migrant Kukis in connivance with their militants and narco-terrorists are waging war against the State and humanity.
