A launch programme of vermi compost was held at Ukhrul on dated: 26 June 26. The vermi compost is titled as AF Compost. It is produced by Zingsho Mapithel CS. Ltd which is a Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) under ARDENT FOUNDATION.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Rimai Joy stated that ARDENT FOUNDATION is a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) under Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology. The organization has been undertaking various development programmes with special emphasis in Ukhrul and Kamjong district of Manipur for overall upliftment and empowerment of tribal communities. The ARDENT FOUNDATION apart from implementing other projects, has a unit called AF Nursery which is raising nurseries of different plants including Apple, Avocado, Persimmon, Macadamia, etc and the nurseries are supplied to everyone interest at minimal rate possible as an encouragement to orchard farming in Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, he stated that majority of our population are farmers and emphasising organic farming, our people do not use chemical fertilizer which is a good thing yet the plants in the orchard farm, paddy fields or flowers do require some additional manures from time to time to produce more yields and AF Compost which is an organic vermi compost will act as a complete solution for increasing produce of paddy rice, fruit plants or flowers. The AF Compost will be available for the public at the lowest rate possible. The stock of the AF Compost will be available at Eden Mart Phungreitang West near Gandhi Chowk Ukhrul.
On the application, it is recommended that AF Compost should be applied at least 2 times a year and the yield will increase by 30%, so farmers are encouraged to apply the AF Compost for more yield in the orchard farm, paddy field and floriculture.
