Ukhrul Police rescued three Naga civilians who were travelling along the National Highway 202 (Ukhrul -Imphal Road) from Kuki volunteers who had detained them at Mongkot Chepu, Ukhrul District.
According to the Police, the three Naga civilians namely Masingleng Vashum, Wungpam Vashum and Ringso Vashum, all from New Tusom Village, Ukhrul District, Manipur were travelling on an alto car along National Highway 202. They were stopped and detained by Kuki volunteers at Mongkot Chepu and taken in a secluded room.
However, the OC of Litan Police and his team acted swiftly and rescued the three Naga civilians from the hands of the Kuki volunteers.
Speaking to Rural Post, Wungpam Vashum informed that the three of them were on their way to Imphal for medical emergencies for his younger brother. “As we were waiting for the escort at Litan, a convoy of Manipur Rifles passed along the highway, so we followed the convoy of Manipur Rifles from behind. But our vehicles were stopped by the Kuki volunteers at Mongkot Chepu and taken to a room” narrated Wungpam Vashum. He further informed that “the Kuki volunteers asked why we are travelling along the National Highway 202 and warned that no private vehicles shall travel along the National Highway 202. Luckily, the OC of Litan Police Station and his team arrived within 5 minutes and secured our safe release. We are grateful to the Ukhrul Police, especially the team led by the OC of Litan Police Station.”
After the trio were rescued, they were escorted till Yangpokpi by the Police team.
