UNC Condemns Ambush At NH-202 & Firing On Naga Civilians

The United Naga Council (UNC) expressed profound grief and unequivocal condemnation over the barbaric acts of killings and series of gun violence that occurred in Naga areas.

Around 11 AM near Yaolen village under Litan Police Station, suspected Kuki militants ambushed vehicles on NH-202. An innocent Food Corporation of India (FCI) driver, reportedly from West Bengal, was killed on the spot, while Constable Disingam Maringmei, No. 1905583 of Ukhrul Police Station, sustained injuries while on duty. This is the third major attack along the Imphal–Ukhrul–Kamjong stretch since February 2026.

At TM Kasom village, villagers were fired upon indiscriminately by suspected Kuki militants while digging a grave at the village cemetery. For fear of being shot, villagers could not complete the burial rites. The deceased, who had died of kidney failure, had to be laid to rest at the village homestead instead of the cemetery.

The UNC condemns in the strongest terms these cowardly acts targeting civilians, personnel of.essential service provider, and mourners. Such brutality has no place in a civilized society. NH-202 is a vital artery for Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, and the Government must deploy adequate security forces and implement a permanent security framework to ensure safe passage for commuters, goods carriers, and government officials. The sanctity of villages must be protected.

Firing on unarmed villagers at a cemetery is a grave violation of all norms of decency and traditional values. The few-kilometre stretch where repeated attacks have occurred should be sanitized by the government comprehensively and permanently. Armed groups of Kukis using the area to launch attacks on civilians and security forces must be dismantled to stop the violence at its source and restore the rule of law.

The UNC also takes a strong exception to and expresses grave concern over the firing by the Kuki militants armed with an sophisticated weapons on innocent farmers at Naga village, Koupum Sub-Division on May 26, 2026.

The UNC extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased FCI driver namely Nitis Kumar from West Bengal and to the bereaved family at TM Kasom. We pray for the speedy recovery of Constable Disingam Maringmei.

“Continued inaction will only embolden such elements. The Government must act decisively to protect innocent lives” Media Cell, United Naga Council
