Kuki Blames Pro-Biren Arambai Tenggol & Tangkhul Militant Group Backed By Ashang Kasar For The Unrest

The Kuki CSO Working Committee Ukhrul in a statement issued on Thursday has allegedly blamed the Tangkhul militant group backed by Ashang Kasar and working in coordination with volunteers from Sikibung, Sinakeithel, and Thawai Tangkhul, along with pro-Biren Arambai Tenggol groups for escalating the ongoing unrest. The Committee has allegedly blamed these groups for repeatedly targeting the Kuki villages, including Mongkot Chepu, Shangkai, and Zalenbung, as well as innocent commuters along the Tinpibung-Leplen stretch.

The statement reads “WCKCSOs wishes to bring to public attention a series of developments concerning the ongoing unrest in the Litan-Sareikhong area.

“Credible ground reports indicate that Tangkhul militant group, backed by Ashang Kasar and working in coordination with volunteers from Sikibung, Sinakeithel, and Thawai Tangkhul, along with pro-Biren Arambai Tenggol groups, have been actively attempting to escalate the ongoing unrest. These groups have repeatedly targeted Kuki villages, including Mongkot Chepu, Shangkai, and Zalenbung, as well as innocent commuters along the Tinpibung-Leplen stretch.

“A fresh round of aggression started from April 6, 2026, until approximately 10:00 AM on April 9, 2026, Mongkot Chepu village was subjected to sustained intermittent gunfire. Similar acts of provocation have been reported across nearby areas, creating fear and instability among civilians. There are also serious concerns regarding the use of deceptive firing tactics intended to mislead and falsely implicate Kuki groups as aggressors.

“Despite these sustained attacks, Kuki communities have demonstrated exceptional restraint. WCKCSOs had, in good faith, issued precautionary advisories to ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of participants attending the Tangkhul CSOs meeting.

“In view of the above, WCKCSOs firmly states that the Kuki community must not be blamed for any retaliatory developments, nor should it be mischaracterized as attempting to disrupt the said meeting. Any such narrative is false, misleading, and serves only to shield those actively working to derail peace.

“WCKCSOs asserts that any disruption or escalation is the direct responsibility of the aforementioned armed militants who are opposed to reconciliation and fear the restoration of peace between Tangkhul and Kuki communities in Ukhrul.

“WCKCSOs calls upon the authorities to take immediate and decisive action to halt these provocative attacks and ensure the safety of all civilians. The organization remains steadfast in its commitment to peace but will not remain silent in the face of continued aggression and deliberate misinformation” added the statement issued by the Department of Information and Media WCKCSOs -Ukhrul.
