A tragic and shocking incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, where a bomb attack claimed the lives of two innocent children ( a 5 years old boy and a 5 month baby girl) and left their mother injured.

According to sources, the incident took place around 1:00 AM in Moirang Tronglaobi village, a vulnerable low-lying area near the hill regions of Churachandpur, which has witnessed repeated violence during the ethnic unrest of 2023 and 2024.

According to sources, a bomb allegedly launched by suspected Kuki militants struck a civilian home while the family was asleep. A powerful explosion hit the bedroom, instantly killing a five-year-old boy and a 5-month-old baby girl. Their mother, who was present in the room, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.

Home Minister, Govindas Konthoujam has posted on Facebook “I strongly condemn the heinous attack at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai. In a barbaric act of violence in the early hours, two innocent children-a 5-year-old boy and a 5-month-old baby girl-lost their lives while asleep with their mother. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Such brutality will not be tolerated. The matter is under active investigation, and all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that those responsible are swiftly identified and brought to justice in accordance with law.”

The attack has once again raised serious concerns about the continuing violence and lack of safety for civilians in the region. Local BJP MLA Th. Shanti Singh has strongly condemned the incident.

Following the incident, anger erupted among local residents. Enraged locals reportedly gathered and thronged the Moirang Police Station, demanding justice and stronger security measures.

This latest attack has intensified fears among residents, especially regarding the safety of women and children. The incident highlights the urgent need for strong security measures, accountability, and immediate action to protect innocent civilians in Manipur.
