The two civilians who were injured by the bullets reportedly fired by the armed Kuki militants on Tuesday at Sharkaphung/Sikibung Village are declared to be out of danger by the doctors at District Hospital Ukhrul.

The two injured persons have been identified as R. Rinyui and Raichan Lungleng of Sharkaphung village. They were evacuated by the Litan Police and brought to District Hospital Ukhrul for treatment. Doctors informed that the bullets passed through the left thigh of Rinyui Ramror, tearing through the muscles. Raichan Lungleng was injured on his left leg with the bullet passing right through his foot.

The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) in a press statement had accused the partiality of the Assam Rifles stationed at Kamjong headquarters. “Their failure to intervene and protect innocent civilians raises serious concerns about accountability and responsibility. Even more shocking is the revelation that Assam Rifles have directly warned the civilians at Kamjong headquarters that any form of retaliation towards the Kuki militants by the Tangkhul Naga volunteers would be met with violence from their end which proves that the AR are hand in glove with the Kuki Militants.”

The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has also vehemently condemned the heinous and unprovoked attacks carried out by armed Kuki militants and miscreants on innocent Tangkhul Naga civilians in Sikibung village and Kamjong Headquarters.

The statement issued by Media Cell- Working Committee, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) stated “beginning from around 2:00 PM on 23rd March 2026, Sikibung village was surrounded on all sides and subjected to indiscriminate and sustained firing by Kuki militants, creating widespread fear and panic among women, children, and the elderly. Several bullets struck residential houses, endangering lives and instilling deep insecurity among the villagers. The attack resumed early the following morning, resulting in grievous injuries to two innocent civilians, while firing continues unabated at the time of issuing this statement.

“Similarly, at around 8:15 PM on the same day (23rd March 2026), armed Kuki miscreants from Chassad village fired rounds of automatic and SBBL guns towards the civilian populace in Kamjong headquarters. The incident, which had occurred in the vicinity of the 11 Assam Rifles unit camp and Police Station, is an absolute challenge shown to the established State and Central authorities. The use of automatic weapons and SBBL guns forced the evacuation of more than 40 Tangkhul Naga families, including women and children, who have since taken shelter in a safer location.

“Even more shocking is the revelation that Assam Rifles have directly warned the civilians at Kamjong headquarters that any form of retaliation towards the Kuki militants by the Tangkhul Naga volunteers would be met with violence from their end which proves that the AR are hand in glove with the Kuki Militants.

“These coordinated acts of violence are not isolated incidents but part of a continuing pattern that has been repeatedly brought to the attention of authorities. Despite prior appeals for restraint and peaceful coexistence, such acts have persisted, exacerbating tensions and threatening communal harmony.

“The complete inaction and apparent leniency of the Central Security Forces and Paramilitary Forces stationed in the affected areas and partiality of the Assam Rifles stationed at Kamjong headquarters have further emboldened the perpetrators. Their failure to intervene and protect innocent civilians raises serious concerns about accountability and responsibility.

“In light of these developments, we strongly demand the State and Central authorities to take immediate and decisive action to halt the ongoing attacks and ensure the safety of all civilians. The Working Committee demands that the State authorities must book the culprits and launch a thorough probe into the security forces who have been found complicit with the Kuki militants. Those found guilty should be prosecuted as per the relevant section of the Indian Penal Code, and award a befitting punishment. The State Government is also urged to take up effective intervention measures to prevent further escalation of violence and restore normalcy in the region.

“Any continued attack on innocent civilians will be viewed as a grave failure and implicit complicity of the security forces deployed in the region. Delay in meaningful intervention risks severe and far-reaching consequences, for which the State authorities will be held fully accountable” added the statement issued by the Media Cell Working Committee, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL).
