As part of National Road Safety Month (NRSM)- Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan, a Road Safety Awareness rally was successfully organised today in Ukhrul by the District Transport Office, Ukhrul.

Commencing from Mini-Secretariat at Hamleikhong, the rally was led by Shri. Asish Das (IAS), the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul along with the DLOs of different departments in the district, and proceeded up to the Town Hall at Phungreitang which then concluded back at the Mini Secretariat.

Addressing the gathering, Ninganung Hashunao, Ukhrul District Transport Officer stated that Road Safety is a shared responsibility as we can only achieve the goal of safer roads and protection of human lives through strong partnership among the Government agencies, civil society, and the media.

With an aim to promote road safety awareness and responsible road behaviour among young minds, a Road Safety Pledge was also taken by all the attendees. The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from all the staffs of different departments under the district administration.

As part of the NRSM observation, Ukhrul District Transport Officers directly engage with citizens on issues ranging from helmet usage and seatbelt compliance to responsible driving practices and pedestrian safety.

The administration has planned several more programmes throughout the month, including Free Medical Health Camps, Quiz Competition on Road Safety, Identifying and Repairing of accident high risk loopholes in town, Community Outreach Programs to ensure that the spirit of National Road Safety Month translates into a permanent reduction in road mishaps in the District.
