The Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Asish Das (IAS) on Thursday flagged off the “Unlocking Ukhrul Model” at Rashontang, Hungpung, Ukhrul District.
The project is being taken up under “Unlocking Ukhrul Model’’ which is a major development initiative programme launched by the Deputy Commissioner himself focusing on improving infrastructure, particularly by renovating 300 kilometers of rural roads of Ukhrul District under the MGNREGA scheme.
Speaking at the flagged off programme, Asish Das stated, “it is very heartening to witness lots of people participating in the programme. Last month it was just an aspiration. Rural roads are bad and we have to do something about it. So we came up with this programme, targeting 300 kilometres of rural roads to be repaired or renovated under NREGA. That is a goal we have made. There is so much of limitations because people are poor and they don’t have much money to do things. Personally, it touches me because people have contributed some bucks in order to make this event successful. And as of now, we have generated work for 285 kilometres all across Ukhrul and we are expecting more and this is going to be a “Christmas Gift” for Ukhrul.”
He further added that “Unlocking Ukhrul Model itself is an aspiration with how dreams can come into reality and we believe in the power of the people, in their capacity, endurance. It’s a different level.
“Now we are working for the “Easter Gift” I request all the Village Authority to identify places where there is landslide happening or potential landslides are there. Please give the data to the SDOs along with the GeoTag photographs. Maybe we could do something about it.”
‘I am so glad people are contributing. Unlocking Ukhrul Model is the unlocking of the potential of the people, which is not tapped yet. Hopefully, it will become a great success” added Asish Das.
“First we identify the needs and the potential; then, we have a vision, a dream where Ukhrul has to reach, each village has to reach. Based on that, we will create a roadmap- an action plan. Then we will find programmes, schemes or convergence in order to make this into a reality. It’s a unique model which nowhere else has practised but I think this will work here” stated Asish Das while interacting with the media.
The flagged off programme was also attended by Dinringam Kamei (MCS), SDO Ukhrul, Zulfi Shah, Project Officer, DRDA Ukhrul, YL. Ayung, Secretary of Hungpung Village Authority and Chairman and Executives of Rashontang.
