The Tangkhul Naga Film Association has expressed strong resentment against certain individuals with vested interests who are attempting to defame and malign the good name of Samurailatpam Naba Sharma, the eminent Manipuri singer popularly known as Naba Volcano -a name that reflects the intensity and power of his voice. Naba Sharma had graciously attented the 5th Tangkhul Naga Film Festival, held on 28th – 29th March 2025 at Ambrose Hotel, Ukhrul, as Chief Guest of the function.

The press release stated that, “during the award distribution ceremony on 29th March 2025, the Chief Guest was requested to perform the popular song “Chinggi Echel” alongside Rosemary Shaiza, a Tangkhul singer and an actor. With his characteristic humility and warmth, Naba Sharma obliged, and the duet with a touch of playful acting – delighted the audience, adding charm to the event. The performance was later uploaded on the official Youtube channel of the Tangkhul Naga Film Association.

“Regrettably, some vested interests have since circulated on Facebook a maliciously edited version of this performance, accopanied by false and misleading comments alleging inappropriate behaviour. These fabricated clips, taken out of context, deliberately distort an innocent and artistic interaction into something unbecoming.

“The Tangkhul Naga Film Association strongly condemns this act of character assasination against a revered artist and social figure. Naba Sharma is not only a celebrated singer but also a cultural icon and peace advocate, known for his lifelong efforts to promote communal harmony and understanding.”

The release issued by YL. Ravins, President, Tangkhul Naga Film Association, stated that, “such actions to malign his reputation are deeply irresponsible and contrary to the values of a civilized and cultured society. The Association hereby warns those responsible to immediately remove the distorted clips and defamatory comments and to cease this malicious campaign against Naba Sharma.”
