In a major breakthrough, the Ukhrul Police Station and Women Police Station Ukhrul on Tuesday arrested an accused who has been absconding since 2023.
According to Ukhrul Police, the 36 years old accused had allegedly committed aggravated penetrative sexual assault repeatedly against his own 12-year old niece. On receiving complaint, the Ukhrul Police registered an FIR No. 01(11)2023 at Women Police Station, Ukhrul U/s 6 of POCSO Act.
The said accused has been absconding since the crime was reported to the police in the year 2023. The police have been looking for him since then and he was finally arrested on 30 September 2025 from Wino Bazaar by the combined team of Ukhrul Police Station and Women Police Station, Ukhrul.
The accused was produced before the Magistrate on Wednesday and was given police custody remand for 4 days.
