According to sources, the President’s Rule, which was imposed on 13 February 2025 in the state of Manipur, is likely to be extended, as a resolution to extend the President Rule is currently being examined by a Select Committee, among other businesses proposed by the Narendra Modi government for the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament starting 21 July 2025.

As per the Constitution, a proclamation of the President’s Rule needs to get approval from Parliament every six months, and the present deadline ends on 13 August 2025.

The intent to bring a resolution to extend the President Rule in Manipur suggests that the centre government does not wish to revoke the imposition immediately.
